I have an Abandoned Digital Garden
I don't take care of my digital garden. Which make me fell bad because it's important to me. (I'm also paying the domain name and I don't want it to be a waste of money.) I want to spend some time everyday to take care of my garden.
My Digital Garden is supposed to represent me, and my goals. It's a way for me to learn in public. I want it to be a place to document my knowledge and my life. A place where I can look back to see what I've achieved. A place to showcase my own abilities.
I think too much about what to do before taking care of that garden. It's freezing me and scare me into not doing it in the end. When I put "take care of Digital Garden" on my to do list, it's too unclear. Does it means that I go around pages and fix typos? Do I need to make sure that there is no orphan pages? Do I write new pages?
That's why I'll do most of the thinking right now for all future attempt. So that when I want to do some gardening I'll just have to act. And then I'll put some gardening time each day and I will know what to do.
What to do when it's gardening time?
When it's time to garden, there is 3 things I could do:
- Write new content
- Check typos, links and formulation
- Check for orphan or unreachable pages
I could try to reduce those actions into one. But it won't make the actions really well defined. Or it would make me ignore a important part of taking care of my garden.
Since all three actions are important, I will not merge them. Instead, I will select one of the three randomly. So that I can do all three in the long run. The important part is that I don't have to do a decision.
Another idea I had is to select every day of a given week in advance. So that it reduce the friction even more. I won't need to roll a dice everyday, since I'll know what to do. But before doing that, I will try the first idea to see if it works.
I don't know if it will work but I'll try. I'll do an update about this in the future.
