You aren't alone on the internet - Talk to strangers

Dear past self,1

I've been blogging for more than 6 months now. I've always been posting without talking about it. I've never reached out to someone else on the internet.

I know that you are scared of interacting with other people. You don't feel worthy enough to even inconvenience them. Or worst to realize that you are not worthy of writing on a blog. That's why you've never talked to anyone on the internet.

But I've recently learned that you don't need to be scared about that. You have yet to realize that you have the right to blog. What you post won't inconvenience anyone, and if it did they would simply not read it.

The bloggers that you read and you respect once where just like you. They also had to began their blog, they had to write their first post. They also struggle with their own problems and fears just like you do.

Most of them are very nice to talk to! They even explicitly ask readers to send them e-mails or to reply over mastodon. Most people are happy to receive a mail from stranger. Happy to connect to someone who read their post, just like you would be. So don't hesitate to send one from time to time!

Know that there are some who want to know about your own view of the world. I know that you don't believe me and I can understand why. But it's true, what you think is mundane can seem new to others. Some thoughts that you find normal are sometimes really interesting to your readers.

So don't be afraid to share your view of the world. Share what you really believe in, it can spark conversations. Tell your experiences and dreams. Some will like to read about it. Ask them and you'll see.

I know that sometimes you write a draft where you totally honest. And that you want to post it but that you're so scared of publishing it. But this fear means that you're writing about something important.

A Letter From you future self

  1. This letter was written for my past self. But those advice can apply to my future self as well as other readers :)
